The ubiquitous "ridiculously cute Ghanaian children" picture. You can see that some of these children are of pre-school age. The school isn't big enough to separate kids into various classes, so all of these children are in "Class One." When I visited their class many of the younger kids were asleep on the floor. Parents send them to school because they know they will come away with a square meal in their bellies. Many adults have to travel for miles to farm because the land in the area is no longer tenable. If the kids aren't in school, they go to farm with their parents for the day. Funding for the feeding programmes was disrupted earlier in the year. Teachers told me during this time the school shut down because all the kids were out working with their parents.See the desk in the background with the two men sitting at it? That's the head teacher's office. In Accra, too, many of the school heads have their desks situated outside under trees. Whether it's due to a lack of space or the stifling heat inside the buildings, I couldn't tell you.
